First thing that came to my mind was "Why should I care? I've never heard of 'Fodor'." At first thinking it was a misspelling of the loveable giant from Game of Thrones "Hodor", I decided to do a little research and after taking a look at their website I found that Fodor's is the world's largest publisher of English language travel and tourism information. So for a company of such stature is saying "Hey, go visit Cleveland" then you know that they must know what they are talking about.
Cleveland has gotten a bad rap over the years but at the same time will have its honor defended by any means necessary by those who hold our little rust belt city in a special place in their hearts. So what is here? Why are people even talking about us? Let's take a look at some of the things that Fodor's has said about our humble town.
In 2009 local comedian Mike Polk Jr made a, what is now referred to as, an anthem-like satirical tourism video of Cleveland entitled "Hastily Made Cleveland Tourism Video" that joked about the economy during our first term of LeBron James stating that "Our economy is based on LeBron James". Well he's back and our town is brimming with pride once again at the Basketball superstars return and hopes of lifting Cleveland to a championship. Whether you are a basketball fan or not, a Cavs game is worth it just to see this guy in action firsthand.
In 1951, Alan Freed was a world famous disc jockey here in Northeast Ohio that is credited for coining the term "Rock and Roll". Because of that fact, Cleveland was called upon to be the host of the world famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which is located right downtown next to the Great Lakes Science Center and the Stadium that hosts the Cleveland Browns. People from all over the world have come to Cleveland just for this Museum of music artifacts. This is a must see if you pass through our town.
P.s. Cleveland hosts one of the top Symphony Orchestras as well that you may want to go see.
World famous Chefs and Restaurants are not an uncommon thing in Cleveland. Michael Simon has 3 restaurants here in Cleveland; Lola, Lolita, and B Spot. We have been listed as one of the top food truck cities by The Food Network. Celebrities come into town frequently to visit our world famous Sokolowski's University Inn which is Cleveland's oldest family owned and operated restaurant where you are served cafeteria style and you will leave with your pants tighter than you walked in. Melt Bar & Grilled has risen to be a staple here with a ridiculous belly buster that has 13 different cheeses, 3 slices of grilled bread and a pile of hand-cut fries & slaw that amounts to over 5 lbs. of food! And our beloved Happy Dog that serves up specialty hot dogs that you can customize to your own unique palate.
Just like a visit to Grandma's house, you will not leave here on an empty stomach!
On the contrary to our reputation for being gray weathered (we see the sun almost 3 times a year!), chubby populationed (we're not fat, we're huggable), and our classic Burning River (guys, it only happened once!), Cleveland has a lot to offer for everyone.
